How to Encrypt a Hard Drive With a Key on Windows 10

Windows 10 comes with a feature called BitLocker that allows you to protect your data from bad people.

Encrypt a Hard Drive Using BitLocker on Windows 10

Open the Start menu and search for “bitlocker“, click on “Manage BitLocker“”.

Click on “Turn on BitLocker“.

Click on “Enter a password“.

Enter a strong password and save it in a piece of paper or remember it.

Now you will need to save a recovery key in case you forgot the password, use an external USB drive for this purpose.

Click on “Save to a file“.

Choose an external storage drive an click “Save“”.

Check “Encrypt used disk space only (faster and best for new PCs and drives)“.

Click “Next“.

Check “New encryption mode (best for fixed drives on this device)“.

Click “Next“.

Check “Run BitLocker system check“, click “Continue“.

Now restart your PC and see what happens.

You will be asked to enter the BitLocker password.
